Camp Internet Briefing

September 15-22, 2003

Welcome to first full week of Camp Internet programs for 2003-2004!  Be sure to post your ‘SCHOOL HELLO’ in your track’s Field Report Room.

Features available for your students

In addition to the learning resources in your selected Expedition Track (which you can use as the research sources for any assignment you as a teacher create), we also offer several fun ways to APPLY those resources in fun and challenging learning exercises:

  1. Every week there are INTERNET DIGS open in different tracks – you can use your own Track’s or another’s. These usually open Tuesday morning and run through the following Monday afternoon, 6am-3pm PST. These challenging Digs are interactive research projects where students can post their findings online – and because it is a LIVE setting, responsible behavior is required so please brief them on how to behave in a public posting area so we have only academic postings. To use the INTERNET DIGS, either use the Dig from your own Expeditions TRAILHEAD (see link at top of that page) – or visit other Track’s Internet Digs from their Trailheads (or from the main FIELD REPORT CENTER located on the Camp portal – log in is required).

  1. Every month there are one or more SPECIAL EVENTS online – we have two this month. First, please post a SCHOOL HELLO to tell one another about your school, class, and if you can post a picture scaled to 300x3000 or under (see TOOL KIT in Teachers Web for instructions on uploading / linking). To post your hello to the group, go to FIELD REPORTS on the main www.campinternet.net portal and then select the field report for your Expedition.

  1. Second Special Feature is to post a PEACE POEM, STORY, or ART WORK in the PEACE WORKS room open through September 30th in the CAMPWIDE FIELD REPORT ROOM. Or email entries to camp@campinternet.net.

  1. LIVE CHATS with Camp Internet experts – our first LIVE CHAT will be with the Camp Internet Directors on Thursday September 25th as a WELCOME SESSION. This will be open for posting questions by students and teachers 8am-10am PST in the CAMPWIDE TRAIL GUIDE CHAT ROOM for all Campers to participate.

  1. It’s easy to also assign students research projects using the featured assignments in the ‘ACTIVITY’ area accessed from the top of the TRAILHEADS. These sections will be growing with new Activity assignments all year. Teachers can select specific assignments from this area and allow students to complete them as self-paced exercises.

Weekly Tip – ‘Open the Book’

Please remember, like any traditional print learning resource, online distance learning works best when students have time set aside to ‘open the book’ and then are given assignments that bring the content to life. With online learning, this opens the door for exciting learning activities unmatched in print or CD ROM – so - ‘OPEN THE BOOK’ by getting your students logged in and explore Camp Internet’s great learning resources with your students every week!
