Dear Campers,
Each Spring we like to
invite teachers and their families to join us for a
fun nature walk as a digital photography / GPS / field report
day that is
a treat for you and your family. This year we have arrangements
with the
UCSB Sedgwick Reserve in the Santa Ynez Valley for a wonderful
Wildflower
Hike! Please RSVP soon with number of people you will be
bringing. All
ages welcome!
The Sedgwick is an old
ranch tucked in a private valley with views of the
towering mountain peaks behind it ... you feel like you
have stepped back
to a much early time in California, and adding the wildflowers
to the hike
will be wonderful. If you can join us in Santa Ynez for
this event we
welcome you to attend. If you would like to arrive on Saturday
and do an
overnight, acommodations in the Solvang and Buellton area
are available in
budget, moderate and deluxe levels.
Plans are to meet at
the Los Olivos Grocery store on Hwy 156 ( between Los
Olivos and the Solvang HWY 246 turn off ) at 12:30. We will
gather
provisions there for a lunch picnic and then drive to the
Sedgwick at
noon. We will have our picnic on the Sedgwick grounds, and
then be lead on
a Wildflower Hike by their interpretive folks.
Here is their invitation
to us:

On Sunday, April 6, 2003,
persons of all ages are invited to
come to the UCSB Sedgwick Reserve in the Santa Ynez Valley
for a
Wildflower
Walk. Volunteers with wildflower training will lead hikes
to various parts
of the Reserve. We are offering a number of hikes of varying
length and
difficulty.
Wildflowers are already
abundant this year at the Reserve. We anticipate
the variety and number will increase between now and the
first weekend in
April. Seeing a slope filled with Sky Lupine, discovering
a Mariposa Lily
in a field, or finding Fiesta Flowers under a tree is truly
a
spirit-lifter
for young and old.
There is no charge for
this event, but donations to the Outdoor Education
Fund will be greatly appreciated. Sedgwick Reserve flower
and landscape
photo note cards, also benefiting the Fund, can be purchased.
The cards
arelovely souvenirs of your day at the Reserve as well as
gifts for family
and friends.
What do you need to bring?
Bring water, energy snacks, hat, sunscreen,
hiking boots or sturdy shoes, long pants preferred.
