UNITED
NATIONS DAY – October 24th. Do
your students know what the goals of the United Nations are?
This year, more than ever since World War II, understanding
the role of the UN is increasingly important. Camp Internet
is fortunate to have a past Assistant Secretary General of
The UN, and the original Chancellor of the UN’s University
of Peace in Costa Rica, available to answer student questions.
Dr. Robert Muller has worked diligently for World Peace for
over 55 years and this Thursday the 24th, on United
Nations Day, is being honored with a World Citizenship Award
from the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. Send Questions to Camp Internet’s ‘Peacemaker Trail Guide’ If your student’s
have questions they would like to ask Dr. Muller about the
work of the UN, about prospects for World Peace, or other
related topics, please email the questions to camp@campinternet.net
so we can submit them to him. In the subject line, please
put For Dr. Muller. Dr. Muller’s books will be going out to
the winner’s of the Camp Internet Peace Poem Project this
week – Nightingale Middle School in Los Angeles and the American
School in Hong Kong. Congratulations! You
can learn more about the United Nations at http://www.un.org/Pubs/CyberSchoolBus/index.html And
see Dr. Muller’s curriculum and other resources at The
Camp Internet Peace Poem Project is also online as a pdf at http://www.campinternet.net/peacepoemproject/ THIS
WEEK ONLINE with Camp Internet Keep
on writing and submitting your Halloween, Ancestor, and Saints
stories. This month we host a writing contest for multi-cultural
Halloween, All Souls Day, and All Saints Day celebrations.
The Campwide Field Reports Room will be open M-F 8am-3pm for
you to post student stories. A spooky (but no gruesome) ghost
story ? A loving tribute to a departed relative? Or a story
admiring a wonderful Saint ? A book report on one of the above
? Whatever religion your students observe, one of these story
assignments will be appropriate. Winning story earns their
class a Mark Twain storytellers CD ROM! Room will be open
through November 1st. Family Night Event Ideas Your
fellow teachers are planning Family Nights tied into Camp
Internet. As a few examples of parent involvement activities
this Fall: a school in Los Angeles is planning a Peace Poem
Event at a local coffee house and another school in Ontario
is planning a Science Night about the Channel Islands. We will help support your events with online
activities so let us know anyway we can help you facilitate
online resources for parents.
